Running Pace Calculator
Enter the distance you ran and your total time to instantly see your pace per mile, pace per kilometer, and average speed. Perfect for race planning and training.
How it works
Pace is simply total time divided by distance. The calculator converts your hours, minutes, and seconds into total seconds, then divides by your distance to get seconds per mile and per kilometer.
Average speed is the reverse: distance divided by time. We compute miles per hour (mph) and kilometers per hour (km/h) using the conversion 1 mile = 1.609344 km.
Tips
Use your pace per mile or km to set even splits during a race so you don't start too fast.
To estimate a finish time, multiply your target pace (in seconds) by your race distance, then convert back to minutes and seconds.
FAQ
How do I calculate pace per mile?
Divide your total running time (in seconds) by the distance in miles. For example, 28 minutes (1,680 seconds) over 3.1 miles equals about 542 seconds per mile, or roughly 9:02 per mile.
What's a good 5K pace?
It varies by fitness. Many recreational runners finish a 5K (3.1 miles) in 25–35 minutes, which is roughly an 8:00–11:15 per mile pace. Beginners may be slower, and that's perfectly fine.
How do I convert pace to speed?
Speed in mph equals 60 divided by your pace in minutes per mile. A 10:00/mile pace equals 6 mph. For km/h, divide 60 by your pace in minutes per km.
